Tomorrow, the tenor will give a concert in Edinburgh in aid of the fight
against leukemia
At midday, Josep Carreras receives an Honorary Doctor of Arts degree at
Napier University in Edinburgh. The Scottish university has conferred this
distinction on Josep Carreras both for his important contribution to the
world of the arts and opera and for his active support of the fight against
leukemia.
Napier University owes its name to John Napier, the inventor of the
logarithm, and is distinguished for its international reputation, its more
than 11,000 students, its excellent music studies department and its
research, especially in oncology.
Tomorrow, December 8, 2000, Josep Carreras will give a benefit concert in
Edinburgh's Usher Hall, accompanied by the conductor, David Giménez and the
soprano Lisa Milne.
The concert programme will include songs by J. Strauss, Serrano, Gounod,
Dvorák, Verdi, Cilea, Cardillo, Léhar, Rodgers & Hammerstein. Jiménez and
Lara, amongst others.
This concert is one of the many concerts and recitals that Josep Carreras
gives in cities around the world in aid of the fight against leukemia. The
tenor's activities provide one of the main sources of income for the
International Leukemia Foundation that bears his name.
The Jose Carreras International Leukemia Foundation was created on July 14,
1988. It concentrates its efforts on scientific research, infrastructure
provision at treatment centers and the maintenance of the Bone Marrow
Registry, REDMO. In addition, it offers social assistance and an information
service about the disease for patients and their families.
Thanks to the solidarity of many people, REDMO currently has 40,000
volunteer donors registered and has access to the more than 6.5 million
bone marrow donors on the Red international register. The Jose Carreras
International Leukemia Foundation, through REDMO, has found compatible
donors for 750 patients waiting for transplants.

El tenor ofrecerá mañana un concierto en Edimburgo
a beneficio de la lucha contra la leucemia
Josep Carreras recibe este mediodía el Doctorado Honorífico de las Artes en
la Universidad de Napier en Edimburgo. La Universidad escocesa ha decidido
otorgar esta distinción a Josep Carreras por su importante contribución al
mundo de las artes y la lírica así como por su activo apoyo a la lucha
contra la leucemia.
La Universidad de Napier debe su nombre a John Napier, el inventor de los
logaritmos, y destaca por una reputación internacional, más de 11.000
estudiantes y sus excelentes estudios de música y de investigación,
básicamente investigación oncológica.
Mañana 8 de diciembre, Josep Carreras ofrecerá un concierto en beneficio de
la lucha contra la leucemia en el Usher Hall de Edimburgo acompañado por el
director de orquesta David Giménez y la soprano Lisa Milne.
El programa del concierto presenta canciones de J. Strauss, Serrano, Gounod,
Dvorák, Verdi, Cilea, Cardillo, Léhar, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Jiménez y
Lara, entre otros.
Este concierto es uno de los numerosos conciertos y recitales que Josep
Carreras ofrece en ciudades de todo el mundo en beneficio de la lucha contra
la leucemia. Las actividades del tenor constituyen una de las principales
fuentes de ingresos de la Fundación Internacional para la Lucha contra la
Leucemia que lleva su nombre.
La Fundación Internacional Josep Carreras fue creada el 14 de julio de 1988.
Centra sus esfuerzos en la investigación científica, la provisión de
infraestructura en centros asistenciales y el mantenimiento del Registro de
Donantes de Médula Ósea, REDMO. Además, ofrece servicios sociales y un
servicio de información sobre la enfermedad para pacientes y sus familiares.
Gracias a la solidaridad de muchas personas, REDMO cuenta actualmente con
más de 40.000 donantes voluntarios registrado y tiene acceso a los más de
6.5 millones de donantes de médula inscritos en la Red Internacional de
Registros. La Fundación Josep Carreras, mediante REDMO, ha conseguido
proporcionar donante compatible a unos 750 pacientes en espera de un
trasplante.
