José Carreras' favorite tenor is Giuseppe di Stefano. If you listen to
the early recordings of Carreras, you can hear reflections of this great
tenor. Maestro di Stefano's career spanned the mid-1940's to the mid-1960's
and he was often paired with the incomparable Maria Callas. One of Mr.
Carreras' greatest professional thrills was when Maestro di Stefano, in recognition of
Carreras' great promise, presented him with his personal costume when Mr. Carreras made
his La Scala debut in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera in 1975. |
